Two Victims Identified in the Ivy League School Attack as Authorities Persist in Manhunt for Killer.

The pair of scholars who died in the weekend's tragic incident at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant continued following the freeing by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies online, remarking: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a search at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our city”.

The assailant began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.

Officers that raided the lodging seized two handguns and two ammunition clips when the suspect was detained, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was released from the hospital, stated Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.

Tributes were paid to Cook at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that particular place as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and peers,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his bright future.”
