Trump Invites Families of Injured National Guard Soldiers to White House

Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.

Presidential Call

The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Response

Community members gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.

Honoring the Soldier

“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”

Service arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Judicial Measures and Government Changes

Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy led the administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on a news program.

Attorney general Pam Bondi told the program that she also intended to visit Wolfe’s family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
