Trump Invites Families of Injured National Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were âheartbrokenâ.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained heâs proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
âI stated: âWhen youâre ready, because thatâs a tough thing, come to the White House. Weâre going to recognize her,â the president told reporters. âAnd similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.â
Community Response
Community members gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of the presidentâs federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Honoring the Soldier
âSarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,â Hankins, the leader of Beckstromâs alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. âShe was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.â
Service arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Government Changes
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is âbattling to surviveâ, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told the program that she also intended to visit Wolfeâs family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
âShe had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,â he told the crowd at the memorial. âThough her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy thatâs going to last forever.â
