Thrice-crowned award winner Nikola Jokic suffers a 'devastating' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself late in the first half during an accidental contact with team-mate Spencer Jones.
His teammate landed on the foot of the big man, who immediately collapsed to the ground holding his leg.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the NBA this season in boards and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to sustaining the problem.
He is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to determine the seriousness of the problem.
"Right away, he knew he was hurt," said Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as talented as him. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We will continue together. Of course, currently, I'm more concerned about him personally and the frustration of going through something like that."
