The United Kingdom Prepared to Utilize Seized Russian Funds to Fund Ukraine's Defense
The British government is prepared to move forward with utilizing the total value of frozen Russia's funds to aid the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.
In a shared declaration, the leaders of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this joint measure would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to participate in talks.
They clarified that the move would be executed in close cooperation with the America.
UK restrictions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russian funds since Russia initiated its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. However, until now, resources allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russian holdings had only been taken from earnings and returns accrued on them.
Sir Keir assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their aim to advance efforts toward using the full value of the immobilized Russia's state assets to halt hostilities.
He added that more restrictions in the coming days and weeks would apply more pressure on Moscow.
This declaration is subsequent to European representatives convened in the Danish capital last week to discuss using seized Russia's holdings for a 140-billion-euro financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.
Recently, American leader Donald Trump encouraged Group of Seven partners to take or employ immobilized Russia's assets, as reported by reports.
The value of immobilized Russia's holdings in the EU is assessed to be nearly €211bn.
President Zelensky encourages UK's Sir Keir Starmer to participate in the PURL programme
Moscow carried out extensive bombardments throughout the Ukrainian territory on that day, leading to electricity outages in large parts of Kyiv, the city, and eight other regions.
Several persons were fatally injured and at least 20 people were hurt in the assault, Ukrainian officials stated.
In a message on X following the strike, Zelensky stated that the strategic strike aimed at public and utility structures.
"The necessity is not mere statements but decisive action - from the US, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in supplying anti-aircraft weapons and applying sanctions," he emphasized.
"Each restrictive measure undermines Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
In the same period, Zelensky told reporters he would urge Sir Keir to join the weapons procurement programme, under which alliance members purchase arms from the United States to give to the Ukrainian forces.
While praising the United Kingdom's firm backing for Kyiv, he noted it should indicate firmly that it would engage in the system, as well as impose further measures on the Russian Federation.
