The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
