One of the co-founders of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, announced how he will independently develop the controversial flavor as part of a personal collection showcasing issues the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Between Creators and Parent Company

The recent announcement deepens the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods corporation that has owned Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

Both founders maintain that the parent company along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed via an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions for naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of support for Palestinians because of its coloration, which mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which originally created several years back to support ex- political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Upcoming Intentions

The founder revealed that he plans to create additional ice cream flavors focusing on issues which the company was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning concerns that its independence was undermined following Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated how "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy so that the company can fulfill the social mission, the principles which established its foundation while upholding for decades," he explained to media outlets.
