Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side just seven months after instigating insulting taunts aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy time with Leeds was ended by mutual consent in August.
Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting insulting chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder
Both men had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season but the former Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
