New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD released security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was anticipated to become an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
