LA Battles Unprecedented Heat Just Days Following Major Winter Weather.
After enduring heavy downpours that caused flooding across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably high conditions for late February.
All-Time High Temperatures
On Friday midday, the thermometer soared to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in downtown Los Angeles, according to weather officials. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was established just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on forecast graphics for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations featured:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Sharp Shift
This dramatic increase in mercury comes on the heels of a powerful storm system that battered the area last week. That storm delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, leading to flash flood warnings for countless residents.

Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead a cooldown is coming. Readings were predicted to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by late Friday.
Several cities that experienced 90°F featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were forecast to reach the high eighties.
For the weekend, downtown LA can expect temperatures in the eighties, with a further cooldown on tap for the week ahead.
