Cameron Norrie achieved the most important win of his career by rebounding from a set down to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had earlier beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this victory marks Norrie's maiden victory over a reigning world number one.

"Huge. Incredibly significant for me," commented Norrie, who becomes the fifth English competitor in the record books to beat a world No 1. "Bouncing back from a physical setback last year, I was defeated in the initial match of qualies here. I just sought to enjoy my game in the second half of the year. To get a triumph like this, it's the most significant win of my tennis journey, my first win over the global number one and likely the strongest player in the tennis scene right now."

Norrie, positioned No 31, also stopped Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine finals in a row and 17 successive premier event victories, which marked the top run of results in the young champion's early professional path.

Match Breakdown

Alcaraz appeared to be moving confidently towards victory early on as he cruised through the initial stanza. However, Norrie gradually battled back into the match by delivering with greater precision and pulling the Spanish opponent into prolonged, physical points. His persistent consistency and consistency gradually took its toll.

During large parts of the contest, Alcaraz delivered strong serves but he had difficulty to locate his rhythm off his groundstrokes.
